DESCRIPTION
The City of Monroe, the Downtown Arts Alliance, and Monroe-West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau is hosting the largest public art project ever experienced in the Ouachita Parish and the city of Monroe. In an effort to celebrate the community’s artists and grow local businesses, Herons on the Bayou will place 45 six-foot outdoor heron sculptures throughout the city of Monroe. The chosen artists will also receive a miniature, 12″ resin heron statue.
Herons on the Bayou had an initial goal of pairing 40 sponsors with 40 polyurethane resin crane sculptures. To their delight, the goal was surpassed and opened up the opportunity to add five more herons devoted to five local non-profits. During the reveal party in June 2019, the sponsorship of the five herons for the non-profits will be auctioned off, with the proceeds benefiting the non-profit.
The 45 heron sculptures will be placed throughout the community with a corresponding map to encourage residents to find and visit all 45.
