Wamego’s success as a community can be attributed to many factors: strategic location, proximity to larger urban areas, and the quality of its citizens.

This vibrant, progressive small city in Northeast Kansas in Pottawatomie County takes advantage of its location located at the junction of US Highways 24 and Kansas Highway 99. Wamego lies only 15 minutes east of Manhattan and 35 minutes west of the state capital of Topeka. Wamego is located only a few minutes north of Interstate 70 along the banks of the Kansas River.
A beautiful downtown, historic landmarks, gorgeous city park, and many famous festivals and events are all the result of consistently strong and effective local leadership, partnered with excellent community spirit and participation.

In the spring of 2018, the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Wamego, Kansas, sponsored a public art project of 15 painted Toto’s. Home to a large community of Wizard of Oz enthusiasts, the polyurethane resin likenesses of Dorothy’s beloved pet, Toto, were 36” tall and molded in two different poses, one of him sitting and one of Toto on his back paws.
Local artists took their inspiration from both the Wizard of Oz movie as well as landmarks from Wamego itself. The Toto’s are spread throughout the community and can be found with the help of a Totos Around Town map.
